My Philosophy |
As a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence/Young Adult Art, I feel that I am a highly qualified and accomplished educator who has much to offer students, by providing them with the opportunity to experience artistic expression as it encompasses our everyday lives. Part of the focus of the National Board process is the ability to differentiate instruction for all students, and I recognize that I will come into contact with a variety of learners and must match my teaching methods to individual needs. |
| In 2005, the Pennsylvania Art Education Association selected me as Outstanding Middle Level Art Educator. Being chosen by a group of my peers for this honor validated my belief that teaching creative and innovative ideas will result in students who are excited about art. |
| As a member of the board of directors for the Pennsylvania Art Education Association, I participate and contribute on a professional level to the position and importance of the arts in the state of Pennsylvania. Through attendance at, and participation in, PAEA leadership retreats, I have sharpened my leadership skills. Advocacy is important part of my role in PAEA and I am always looking for ways to promote the arts and art education through exhibits, community involvement, and professional development. |
| Since 1999, I have integrated technology into the art room to the extent that students who feel intimidated by traditional drawing and painting classes are flourishing in the arts. By using computers and the Internet, I have found creative ways of using new media and technologies to enhance my students' understanding of arts and culture. In 2003, the Intel Corporation featured my Lego animation lesson on their Innovation Odyssey website. Our stop motion animations became something of a phenomenon and as a result of Intel's recognition, animation is now included in the curriculum on the high school level. |
